Types of Words…

Today’s post is another about writing in general and not so much about marketing.

Not sure why, but lately I’ve felt more of a need to concentrate on writing as a craft and skill and less on copy as a technique. This, has prompted me to return to some of my earliest surviving writings from high school.

Here is a poem I wrote based on the writing prompt, “Words”

Types of Words…

Little words that get in the way…

can’t -if-why-no

Words that can always answer a question…

Why? – Why not?

A word that can always describe what someone is doing…

“Nothin’”

A phrase that tells all…

“I don’t know”

Words that cause fights…

I – Me – Mine

Words that build friendships…

you – yours – ours – together – compromise – us

Words that will always be around side-by-side…

Love-hate good-evil happy-sad true-false birth-death create-destroy you-me

As I said, this has little to do with marketing and more to do with where I am as a writer… exploring my craft more deeply. May not be the best idea for a copywriter… it might be too much like “examaning my navel” but, that’s where I am.

Perhaps it’s that I am looking for a way to connect with my reader. In this world of over promising copy, how do I stir emotions both effectively and with ethics.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on all of this.

This morning I woke up with the strangest idea on my mind. The idea to write is not strange, but what I feel compelled to write about is…

But a little creativity is good for the soul.

So While I have no idea where this will go – Come along for the ride, won’t you?

Frivolity in the Cupboards

July 2 2010 by Sean McCool

Perhaps by now you’ve heard the scandalous tale of the Dish and the spoon.

But did you know their deeds had spread and created corruption and chaos throughout the kitchen?

Consider the knife and the fork…

Once merely colleagues at work they now can be found “lying” around doing who knows what behind closed drawers.

And then there is cup and saucer whose retirement has put serious strain on their relationship. It appears cup is now hanging out late at night at fancy coffee shops in the trendy parts of town leaving saucer home all alone.

Of course, it doesn’t end there.

Pots and Pans, siblings, have taken on a new level of rivalry as each wants to be used more. But alas new and younger siblings with their special gifts for exclusive culinary tasks have stolen the show.

And of course there’s the new “rif-wrap” in town… they’re not even dishes… they’re closer to trash than a real dish… always hanging around waiting for leftovers from the daily meals…oh and how easy they are…. you should see their cupboard. An absolute mess… scattered everywhere and with their tops off and lying who knows where… it’s absolutely scandalous!

Then there’s the new kid, have you seen this guy? He went and put poor Mr. Coffee right out of a job. No one here likes him much, he’s always blowing a bunch of hot air and getting all steamed up… and noisey about it too. Not to mention he looks like a freak with arms and legs sticking out in the strangest directions.

—————–

Well, that’s it. That’s where the creativity died out for now. I’ll keep this in a word file on my computer and maybe come back to it from time to time.

Hey, I told you it was strange.

But maybe you could help…

What crazy stuff goes on in your kitchen behind closed drawers?

Let me know by leaving a comment below…
