Would You Like Your Next Copywriter To Have These 3 Qualities?
(If so, I can deliver.)
- Disciplined Work Ethic
- Real Life Sales Insights
- Passion for the Power of Words
First, a disciplined work ethic. As a member of the US Army in 1992, I was selected to be part of The Old Guard in Ft Myer VA. This post requires a discipline that is unrivaled in any job. You’ll benefit from my training as a member of The Old Guard where I learned the importance of working as part of a team. You can see a video of The Old Guard at work here:
Folding flags in the scorching sun or firing a final salute in the cold silent winter snow taught me a valuable lesson. That lesson is this: Despite the conditions around you, you have to ignore the physical and mental pain, work hard and perform at your personal best everyday.
You have my word that you’ll receive the same devotion, discipline and flat-out hard work when I’m pounding out page after page of powerful, profit-producing copy for you.
The second quality that you’ll like having on your team is real life, face-to-face, belly-to-belly sales insights. In October of 1999, I took and passed the series 63 exam. The following year I sold 3.5 million dollars worth of fixed and indexed annuities at the kitchen table of some of the most skeptical buyers in the world… the senior market.
I’ve looked in the eyes of prospects that just lost 50% in the tech bust of 2000. I’ve seen the distrust as they tell me how their broker made them broker. I’ve seen their eyes light up when they tell me about the stock that doubled their money in one year. I’ve been there when the wife walks out of the room in disgust because her husband won’t let go of a dying stock. I’ve seen it all…and made the sale anyway.
I convinced stubborn, skeptical, old men and women to move money from stocks, bonds, mutual funds, CD’s, gold, checking and savings into the products of our company. Now, when you hire me as a member of your advertising team you will benefit from that experience. And together we will sell the products and ideas of your company.
Third, I have a passion and a respect for the power of words. Not just writing but reading and understanding that all great ideas are communicated through the power of words.
I’m constantly in awe of how a great movie, song or book can literally change the course of a life. I don’t take that lightly. As copywriters, if we do our job well, we wield a powerful weapon that shapes the lives of our readers.
Words. For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for words, for writing and for ideas. Every career test I’ve ever taken has listed writer as a recommended career choice.
In addition, I recently took the “Clifton strengthsfinder 2.0” test. It’s a book put out by the Gallup organization that includes an online test. The test reveals your 5 key strengths. Mine were as follows, with exact quotes from the results. Imagine how these strengths would improve your team.
- Deliberative – People who are especially talented in the Deliberative theme are best described by the serious care they take in making decisions and choices. They anticipate the obstacles.
- Strategic – People who are especially talented in the Strategic theme create alternative ways to proceed. Faced with any given scenario, they can quickly spot the relevant patterns and issues.
- Connectedness – People who are especially talented in the Connectedness theme have faith in the links between all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost every event has a reason.
- Ideation – People who are especially gifted in the Ideation theme are fascinated by ideas. They are able to find connections between seemingly disparate phenomena.
- Intellection – People who are especially gifted in the Intellection theme are characterized by their intellectual activity. They are introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions.
As you probably know, a person that is using their natural talents combined with discipline, hard work, life skills, a passion for ideas and a commitment to “Kaizen” (the Japanese word for constant and never ending improvement) is an extremely valuable and rare find. I believe I am that rare combination. Now you will be able to harness that rare combination of skills and talents to pound out page after page of profit producing copy for you and your company.
Listen, if you’ve been waiting for the right copywriter to give that next promotion a shot, you simply don’t have to wait any longer. But, just in case you’re not convinced to book me just yet, let me share this with you.
The idea that I could earn a living reading and researching new and interesting ideas was more than I could have dreamed of in a career.
I remember the first time I heard about this career called copywriting. I thought it was too good to be true. The idea that I could take my life long love of writing and ideas and combine that with my life experiences in just about every type of job you can imagine was hard to believe.
But here I am writing copy for top notch clients like yourself and Agora as well as writing for many small businesses and even a few of my own products.
So, allow me to wrap this up.
There is no doubt in my mind that I can help you sell more of whatever it is you need to sell.
Sincerely,
Sean P McCool
P.S. – Have you ever heard Don Hauptman’s Postcard Story where David Ogilvy lamented, “My mistake to have missed you when you were cheap.” ? I may not be as great a copywriter as Don Hauptman but I am about as cheap as I’m ever going to be; Take advantage.
